Default Tranny Question

i have a 99 dodge 25oo with the automatic. it has 128000 miles on it. im contemplating when the tranny starts to go if i should replace it with a high proformance tranny or swap it over to a 6 speed manuel because i love the 6 speed manuel. i am planning on eventualy getting to around 500-600 hp when im. done it will be used as a daily driver / pull truck / drag truck.im wanting the most dependable set up for what im planning on using it for. and if yall think the manuel will be better what all would it take to convert mine over to a manuel.

just want to say thanks for yall opion on it.

well i would go with a the 5 speed, but you would need the easy things tranny, clutch, slave cylinder, flywheel, change the input hub in the transfer case, input shaft to the transfer case, new drive shafts, clutch pedal, neutral safety switch. Your looking at about 3-5 k to do this thats if you can find a tranny for a good price but its definately worth it IMO. Then all the little parts for this and that.

I just had a friend do this in his 97 it's not really that hard to do just very time consuming.

with a real stout tranny and torque converter im still looking at over 4 grand at a minimum. and for time, my truck has been down over a year now. so im sure when the tranny goes south i wont mind taking a little time to change it over if thats what i decide

if your planning on doing a lot of pulling and dragin it then go with a built auto as you just can't be as consistant shifting one of these. Just do it right and buy a complete system with all the billet parts.

draggin would definately be a plus if you had an auto but for pullin id would definately say a manual is better. However that guy Jeff Prince i belive is his name was runnin low 12's high 11's with his 5 speed so you can run fast with a stick.

More fun factor goes to the auto. If you want to drag race or screw around with the truck a built auto is the way to go. IMO, the 5 speed (or 6 speed for that matter) is for towing and daily driving.
