Default Cruise control not working

Greetings friends. Looking for some help with a 2002 2500 manual. The cruise control is not working. No warning lights, speedo works and cruise light ignites when first key on cycle happens along with other cluster lights. Code P0573-cruise/brake switch is in the computer when you do the self check. I replaced the brake switch and cleared the computer using OBDII port code clearer. The cruise light would come on with the button but then after a few mins its dead again and the code is back. I would much appreciate some insight. Thanks.

Is your brake lights on constantly? Or (If equipped) is your break box signal light lit at all times?

I would think the only other options would be the brake switch harness having a short.

Brake lights operate normally. The lights worked fine before I changed the switch also. The two service manuals I have don't speak to the diesel with manual trans. Automatic have a different cruise set up then the manual. I will check the harness to see if I can find an issue with that. Thanks for the input.

with a manual trans, the ecu communicates directly with the vp44, and the only 2 cutout switches are your clutch switch and your brake switch.
The only other thing that I would check would be your buttons. Check the output ohms of your buttons in your steering wheel, and see if they are sending the proper signal to the ecu. or check your clock springs in your steering column to make sure they are not too worn.
The chrysler manuals give the Ohm details of your buttons...
my truck didn't have cruise on it when I bought it, all it took was a junk yard steering column.

I did replace the clock spring in an attempt to fix my horn. I will put the old one back in and see if that's the issue. I have new buttons sitting in the shop too so I will try those as well. Thanks for your input cooter.
