sounds like you and I are in the same boat.Your set up sounds pretty close to mine, 17PSI is all I can get out mine as well. I believe my problem is a boost leak or the wastegate actuator is stuck partially open. I haven't had a chance to really check into it to find out what is going on.

First thing I would do is turn down your programmer until you find the boost issue. I'm guessing you have an egt gauge. Watch it closely. Keep from any harmful damage happening. You should have a hy35 turbo on your truck if its stock. I'm not sure the best way to check the wastegate. I make about 19 psi with my programmer off. Other thing is a leak. Could be anywhere from where air enters the turbo to where it comes back out. ( charge air cooler, tubes, intake manifold, or exhaust manifold. ) all those are where it will drop boost. Hope some of this helps.

thanks for the replies i took your advice and backed my programmer down to stock and noticed i will make about 15 pounds of boost even on stock but when i turn it up to 5 i get basically the same out of it could it be the wastegate freezing because the temperature is 3 degrees here the past 3 days thanks for your help guys

Mine has been this way. I was wondering why my truck is slower compared to the last cummins truck I had. My truck now isn't a daily driver so I work on it when I get a chance to. edge comp on 5x5 17 psi max. I am pretty sure my intercooler boots are cracked and leaking air. Factory boots and my truck has 238k on the clock. make your self a boost leak checker. https://www.dieselbombers.com/dodge-...tructions.html

Sounds like a boost leak, like BarryB said, build the tester. I know I found a major leak in my positive pressure side using the BP tester, the tester is cheap and effective at testing for boost leaks.

Do you have the J-hook for that hy35?
