Default Egt readings?

I just installe my egt guage the other day. I put the sensors before the turbo. I have read on this site about what a normal reading is for my truck. People were saying that they will get up to 1200 wot on their stock. My guage has been reading at 300 at idle, and 800 cruising. The highest i have gotten it is 1000 wot. This is with my edge on. Are these normal readings or do I have a crap sensor. This is my first diesel so first time I have had an egt guage. Also is the gauge supposed to move up and down with the throttle. Like you give more gas it goes up and u let off and it goes down. Or is it supposed to stay pegged at one temp at all times. Any info is helpful. Thanks

your temps are normal considering you haven't tapped the pump wire yet which will give the truck twice as much fueling/power once tapped..

it should move with throttle...

it measures heat in the exhaust... deceleration will cause egt's to drop, acceleration will cause them to rise a bit.

cruising should hold a close temp range... down hill will decrease temps, up hill will increase temps...

if you had twins it would really confuse you!

egts go up and down under throttle with twins . they climb up but as that larger turbo starts moving more boost they start dropping.

After I installed my gauges I returned my truck back to stock programming to see the differences. WOT w/ stock I couldn't hit 1000 on the egt. So your good. Do u have a boost gauge on your truck? If so where is it reading at with certain temps?
