Default help with dtc 216 & poor mpg

I have a 2001 dodge 3500, today in the 108 degree temp, it set a code 216. The only other problem I have been having is poor fuel milage. I got the truck last July with 45k on it averaging 17mpg. Now it has 73k averaging 10mpg, and no I dont drive it hard. Has air dog 150, s&b intake, ats trans- no other mods, any help would be appreciated.

I was really hoping that was not the case. Thanks for the info.

I notice there is alot of choices for the vp-44 out there. Do I get a stock one from the dealership, or do I get an aftermarket one from a place like blue chip diesel? I want to use the most dependable option.

Most of the pumps out there are built by mwfi. Buy a SO vp-44 if you plan on adding power. Don't spend over $1250. Maybe check with the vendors here.

45k is very low for a bad vp44. you should troubleshoot first.

1) make sure your fuel filter is clean
2) make sure you have good fuel pressure
3) many people run 2 stroke oil, waste motor oil etc that can cause internals to stick and the timing to not advance. run some diesel service or powerclean additive to make sure tings are not sticking

all of the above can cause a p0216 code. If the above does not work, buy a pump

We are one of MWFI larger distributors and keep their pumps in stock.

Feel free to call for help trouble shooting.

Default So far so good

Cleared the C.E.L. and fueled up and added power services diesel clean, so far 150 miles without the C.E.L. coming back on- keeping my fingers crossed. I am sure its only temporary, but it works for now.

I also put on new fuel filter and water sepaerator (air dog lift pump). The fuel pressure coming from the airdog is fine.
