i bought a 6spd a couple weeks ago. it keeps getting p1689 code (ecm could not communicate with the injection pump module). the 1689 code comes back after i reset it with the scaner after driving it a few miles. the truck cuts off and feels like it gets dead pedal every once in awhile. i try to catch it and push the clutch in to see if it dies but it drops down to about 500rpm and jumps back up and idles. the truck cuts off alot more if i turn the edge comp on and off continuosly. i figured this out because the edge doesnt always work but powers on like it is. i was trying to get it to work while i was driving and every few times it would feel like the truck shuts down. if i turn it off and on a few times while its idleing, the truck will act kinda funny for a second then smooth out. could the vp be going out and not fuelling when the edge is on or could the edge be messed up? the check engine light and code comes up even if the edge is turned off. also, i was making pulls on the highway las night and the first one took 9sec to get from 60 up to 70mph with the box off. after that one i took 6-7sec to get from 60 up to 70mph. i reached down and turned the box on and it decided to work and took 3sec to go from 60mph to 70mph. today while in the rain, i can floor it in 2nd gear and it wont break the tires loose but it does in 3rd sometimes a little bit in the upper rpms when the boost gauge hits about 15psi.

previous owner put a new injection pump on it but i checked the lft pump pressure and it was 10psi a idle and would go down to 0psi when i floored it and the rpms started to climb. i put a airdog 150 on it with all 1/2" lines last sunday. i am pretty sure i got dead pedal today when i took off from a light because i pressed the peddle when i shifted into 3rd and it took a second before the truck would pick up more speed

 

You can try an APPS reset procedure....But more than likely your IP is done.

ok i will try that. i got a apps and map code about a week ago when i unplugged the edge box while the truck was running but those 2 haven't came back sense i reset them.

i dont care if it is the injection pump but i dont want to throw parts at it and waste money. previous owner told me it was the ecm throwing random codes before i bought the truck.

it might be just when the truck is warm. haha. i know it does it when its warm but not sure if it does it when its cold.

 

I agree with HRD. Sounds like vp is bad. If it only happens when warm it might just be the electronics in the vp. Unfortunately I dont think you can buy just the electronics. Before shelling out the $ for a new vp you might want to try this https://www.dieselbombers.com/98-5-0...ronic-fix.html

Probably a good idea to completly remove the edge and see what happens.

 

I had that (pending code) 2yrs ago truck ran fine,I think the vp44 is sick,how's your lift pump pressure& fuel filter?

 

just put on a brandnew airdog 150 last sunday.

took the edge off and it still does it. check engine light came on when i was leaving the gas station.

ok. the one on the truck is only about 6mo old. hopefully they warranty it out even though it has had the edge on it.
