Default help: 01 6spd with codes

just bought a 01 2500 6spd. previous owner had ip replaced and i am getting codes 1689,1693 and 0122. he said the truck hiccups about twice a week and the check engine light comes on. could the ip still be bad and need replaced?

It could be a bad VP44 injector pump. Did the previous owner replace the lift pump with an aftermarket one? The stock lift pump is the reason the injector pumps fail on these trucks. 1689 is no communication between ECM and injection pump. 1693 means there is a stored code, could be anything. 0122 is an error code meaning that the APPS voltage is too low. The 1689 code could just be stored from when the injection pump was replaced. I would reset your APPS and see what happens. Just search on how to do it on here.

i unhooked the + & - cables on both batteries for over an hour and they still came back up. i am going to reset the APPS tomorrow after i get back from hunting and check fuel pressure to see if lp is weak. i am going to put an air dog on it as soon as i get it fixed incase there needs to be money spent else where.

could the APPS be making the 1689 and 1693 codes come up?

I wouldn't rule it out,By all means check the lift pump pressure!

Yes, see how much fuel psi you're getting to the injection pump. You need at least 10psi to keep it alive. I don't think the APPS would be setting off the 1689 code. That one might be stored from when the injector pump died.

I'm going to check fuel pressure today. The truck seems like it is low on power like its not fueling. It wont even try to smoke if i put it in 6th and lug it. I have tried lugging it with the edge comp on and off.

Well if that thing is running an Edge Comp with the stock lift pump, then there's a pretty good chance that the injection pump is cooked. You know they're only lubricated by fuel so when the injection pump doesn't get enough fuel supply, they get hot and cook the electronics mounted on the top of the injection pump, causing the code about no communication between ECM and injection pump

Yea i know the fuel cools and lubes the pump. It does have the stock lp i think. He said he hardly ever ran the edge but who knows. He said the edge has hot unlock on it so thats even worse on it. I will probably just put a airdog and ip on it. The lp looks like its never been changed and the truck has 292k.

We see these problems from time to time.

Swap fuel relay with wiper relay -- can get rid of 1689
remove battery cables for 10 minutes and re set the tps to try to get rid of the p0122
the p01693 will go away once the others do.

If you do the above and it still comes back call us for a new TPS (under $200)

i pulled all the battery cables off last night for about an hour and half and the 1689 and 1693 codes came back on as soon as i started the truck. i took it to autozone today and had them scan it. the only code that came up was 1689. i had him clear it with the hand held. we drove it to get something to eat and it never came back on. when we were leaving i powered the edge box on and the check engine light came on right away. could a weak lift pump cause this? i rented the fuel pressure test kit from autozone but the fitting i needed to use was cross threaded and wouldn't thread on right so i think thats why i wasnt getting a pressure reading.
