Default 01 nv4500 ?'s

hey guys, im looking at buying a 2001 v10 nv4500 truck with 209k for the transmission and case. to do a 5spd swap. the front wheel bearings are locked up so i couldnt test drive it, but the guy jacked it up and let me go threw the gears. everytime you shift it, it has a sloppy clunk (hammer on cast iron) sound when letting off the gas, and getting back on it. if you shut the truck off, and put it in gear, and turn the rear wheels by hand back and forth, it almost sounds like a sloppy smoked u-joint but the joints are tight so its not that. after listening some more, the noise sounds like its coming from the middle of the trans. any idea what would cause that, and what i would need to fix it? it seems like the main shaft to me seeing where it does it in every gear. none of the gears grind or pop out under load. i found this rebuild kit on ebay.... would that work?

That may be the issue. You won't know for sure until you get the Trans opened up and look.

yeah. i got him down to $1500 for the complete truck, do you think thats worth it?

I'm not too sure if that is a deal if all you want is T-Case and Trans. I did a quick search on a local classified, and found a NV4500 for $500.

yeah not around hear, i look high and low on craigslist everyday. if there is just the trans for sale its around 1500, and 2800 for a complete swap kit. everyone wants top dollar. the guy started at 3k and i got him down to 1500, he didnt want to go any lower, i told him to let me know if he doesnt sell it. so we'll see what happens i guess.

heck buy take what you want and part out the rest. If you buy it, I'd be interested in those tow mirrors. If power.

i was gonna swap them with my non power tows, but turns out there non power, and both of the glass in them were shattered. figures. as for parting it out, the front end is totaly junk, every body panel except for drivers rear door, tailgate, and hood were rotted/dented. and the rear end is a open diff, most guys want the posi, as for the interior it is a strip down/no power so theres not much value there. motor sounded good, but had little to no oil on the stick so its a burner. idk like raw said it really isnt worth it for just the case and trans. id be into it for over 2500 between a rebuild and new clutch, and most likely a case rebuild too, judging by how oil soaked everything was under it meaning theres no oil in either. if the guy will do it for less i might go for it. ill let you guys know...
