Default New to the Cummins. Questions

I just picked up a 98 Dodge 2500 with a 24 valve. I think I got a great deal on it. It only has 83,000 miles and looks great. "old man" had it hauling a camper. I am getting about 16 to 17 mpg out of it. I drive a lot and would like to improve mileage without getting to involved with extreme mods and such. I was hoping a simple 'chip" or "programmer" would help. Power is not a concern (YET)but a bonus. This truck has all the ***** I really need.

Question #1 How do I tell if I have a 98 or a 98.5?

#2 Can I get 20 to 22 mpg from this power puck? DiabloSport D7153 - DiabloSport Power Pucks - Overview - SummitRacing.com ?

#3 Any recommendations to get my mileage up a little?

Thanks for any help. I really do love this truck the best dodge I have owned. This makes the fourth.

Look at the engine, drivers side, for the injection pump. If it is long and has 6 tubes coming straight up, its a 98. If is is a smaller pump with 6 lines sticking out towards the rear in a circle, 98.5.

Can I get 20 to 22 mpg from this power puck?
Maybe, advertised HP and MPG gain vary drastically between vehicles.

Any recommendations to get my mileage up a little
Lift pump, exhaust, air filter, and a good programmer.

simple answer is 98 is a 12 valve 98.5 is a 24 valve if it is one hundred percent stock the first thing i recomend is a quality lift pump if your not looking for hige power both of the direct replacement pmps from FASS and Air Dogs raptor diect replacement are gppd pumps I prefer the Raptor because you can run it with a chip or programmer. The biggest reason is to make sure you have a good supply of fuel to protect your VP44

you could have a 98.5 12 valve or 24 valve how you tell if you have a qaud cab is 98.5 have doors that open and 98 does not. most important thing is knowing what engine you have before modding it

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

in a reg cab its about the dash and cup holders ones above radio 98 cup holders below that swing dwn 98.5
