Default Question about hose that comes off the front diff. + tranny question.

So my first question is in regards to this hose. This hose was leaking out of no where yesterday, probably leaked about 1/4 cup onto the ground, and it's definitely gear oil, not ATF. I parked it in the same position that I usually do, so im confused as to why it would have leaked. I'm pretty sure this hose should connect to something...
It looks like a differential overfill to me, but I have never seen or heard of that before

second pic provides a better over all picture of where the hose starts

Then I came across this hose that comes down, I don't know where it starts, it doesn't pull out, I don't know the purpose or function of this hose.

any thoughts? I am baffled by the second hose, haven't had time to try to trace it back, engine was hot when I found it.

My transmission also has a whine to it, I checked the fluid it was low, added fluid (too much, drained it out to the proper amount). Still is whinning, I really don't want to be replacing this transmission so soon, I bought the truck like 1 month ago.
truck is a 98.5, bone stock with about 122k miles on it, auto tranny. transmission was replaced with a rebuilt one about 3-4 months before I purchased it.

The first is a vent hose for front axle. Look at the rear axle find the same thing

Just seen you said it was a 98.5. Looks more like a 98. Does it have the 12v or 24v?

It's a 24v, what makes it look more like a 98 than the 98.5? It says 24v on the side of the truck

I thought the 24 valve had the blow by tube on the front of the motor, not by the starter. Does it have a one piece valve cover or individual valve covers with a plastic cover on top of them ? Somebody may have changed the doors

My buds '99 has the blow by tube on the side of block right in front of the starter.
