Default tranny heat problems

I have a 99 cummins with a rebuilt tranny in it with only about 7000 miles on it. It also as a brand new radiator but my tranny tends to get really hot on occasions. my temperature records on my chip show that its hit 286. Any suggestions?

Wow, that's way too hot. Have you confirmed that is the actual temperature?

you wont have a tranny for long with temps that high. it's not cooling. there is a phenolic check valve I think in the cooling lines which might be sticking. some shops recommend removing it. I would take it to a high end shop and have it power flushed and put in new ATF while youre at it! I would check if you have a warranty as well because you may need it real soon!

This may not be something it actually read for real. During install a wire may have shorted to ground, or something similar, to get that record. A coworker bought a '02 with an EJWA. His highest recorded RPM is 5,850.......I highly doubt that engine turned that fast. You could reset your records, and see what happens after that.
