Default Injection Pump Care

I've got the vp44 injection pump with 150,000 miles on it. Are there additives that I should consider to extend its life? Runs great now.

Nothing is going to extend its life more than making sure your feeding it with enough fuel. According to cummins you should not have lower than 5 PSI. If you want to make sure of the life of you VP44 you need a pressure gauge so you can monitor the life of you Fuel Filter and lift pump. The lift pump is what kills the vp44, but they do wear and eventually fail like everything else on the truck mine got replaced at 150K and now have 235K. But get a fuel pressure guage such as Westach or ISSpro. And change you fuel filter every 15K or once a year, I change mine twice a year because of the switch to blended diesel where I live.

I have a stock Lift pump and it never falls below 10 PSI and WOT, and idles at 18-20 PSI. Diesel is an oil based fuel, and is the lubricant and coolant for the VP44. What generally causes the failure to the VP44 is when the Lift Pump is to weak the VP44 draws the fuel in on its own which is over working you IP and now if its being over worked it gets hotter and runs hotter than normal and kills the electrical on the pump because it is overheatin since the LP is not feeding the neccesary fuel to the pump. Make Since? you can run additve I like to run Power Diesel in the Winter time, but I never seen a difference if fuel milage. ATF works good to, as long as you never get your tank dipped for Red Diesel. 10K Fine in colorado. I also carry a spare lift pump like 6.0 Powerstroke owners carry a spare engine..
