Ok. I have just bought a 93 Cummins and got it home and now the seal on the governor shaft is leaking. Been doing some research on what to do and how to do since I am a total newby to this.
I am looking at doing the following mods all in the time that i pull the pump to replace the seal for the governor shaft. Here is what I am thinking........ -install the 3200rpm spring -get a Denny-T fuel pin -advancing the pump timing -adjusting to actually getting WOT, (not going to try the more in depth method of grinding yet) My question is, how are all of these act together? My goal is the open it up a little, get more response out of the truck, and try to improve the mileage of the truck. I have heard that the black smoke in the exhaust is unburnt fuel so I am hesitant to mess with the smoke screw, and the other adjustments I'm still a little vague on what I should do. I want this truck to have more power but I also want to improve mileage. Should I do all of these mods or is there anyone of them that I might not want to do in combination? My plan of attack had been just research, now that my head is about to explode with all the stuff I've been reading I figured I will ask for some advice. I do appreciate any advice. Jason |

Youe should not have any problems with that set-up.
All are pretty much a very goos base for a well rounded truck! |

Where is a good place to get a setup of gauges for a decent price?
The only pod I can find for the 93 is a only a double. Where can I find a loaded triple pod? Last edited by pewder; 10-14-2009 at 08:00 PM.. |

yep if your going to do more then what is in your 1st post you need gauges.
Put a thread in teh price quote section and some of teh sponcors will hook you up! Price Quote - Request A Price - Diesel Bombers I would do EGT, Boost, Fuel Pressure, and Tranny temp (if auto tranny) |

So if I just do those mods and not turn up the pump I would be good without gauges?
I for sure want to get a hold of the trans temp, my wiring has been fried to the trans so my OD isn't workin now. I don't know what would have caused it but once I fix it I don't want it to happen again. |

Yes as long as eveything is right with the truck now. Gauges also help make sure something is not going wrong.
The OD is pretty easy to fix. You can wore a switch to thw wire on the tranny for a temporary fix. |

Do you know what wires i need to tap into to temp a switch? And do i only need to turn it on when I want OD to engauge? And I take it I would have to run two wires so it has a ground to accompany it. Also, the large trans coolers that come under the side of a stock bed, it this a factory part or aftermarket?

I belive its teh rear wire. And you need to ground it for it to work. One wire should be a hot wire when teh truck is running. Unplug the plug, start the truck and get under there with a test light. When you find the hot wire hook a switch up to the other wire that GROUNDS it when you turn on the switch.
The cooler under the bed is factory. |

yeh
I am just now ordering my gauges as well. Everyone I have talked to said make sure that your gauges are all installed before you do anything dealing with fuel changes. mainly do to egt's. |

What you talked about in teh 1st post wont effect your EGT's enough to hurt anything. You dont need to worry about them untill you start playing with teh full power screw unless there is already a problem.
With that said gauges are still a great idea to have even on a stock truck. |

Ok. Good to know guys. Maybe I'll just use the cash I have now the get the truck on the road. Then later when I sell my car to make it my full time driver i'll buy the gauges. For now it's just going to be the part time driver so I can go out and do some camping if I want.
If there is anyone that is around the Las Vegas to Salt Lake strip of I-15 that wants a hydraulic dump bed then I got one for ya. ha ha |
