Default 93 bolt on turbo upgrade

Hey guys I'm new to this forum and to diesels as well! My rig is a 1993 reagular cab cummins. I was pondering the thought of getting a bigger turbo and need some opinions on which way I should go. I've been looking at the hx40 and the hx45, but I dont know what to look for. A friend recommend a borgwarner 62mm? Will these all bolt on to my 93?

Bolt on, yes. If the charger has got a t3 flange on it, it will literally bolt to the exhaust manifold, In come cases alternate downpipes are needed. Compressor housings can also vary slightly depending on the direction of the charged to air output.
As far as what turbo you should be running if we had a list of modifications made to the engine it would help us better pick a turbo that would suit your needs

So far, the only thing I've done is a fuel pin, and some pump adjustments. Anything else I need before turbo upgrade? Headstuds maybe?

You can switch over to an hx35, it will be a mild upgrade for you. And you should not need studs with that turbo.

It is a mild upgrade, but it feels like night and day.

That may be! But it is still mild as far as performance goes. It will make it breath quite well. Could also do an he351cw, they hurt top end but you will not have a ton of that with a ve pump. It will run quite well

Thanks for the help! One other questions you might be able to answer for me. What gear ratio would give me more top end?

A governor spring will get you more top end for the least cost.

You can do an axle swap to get you into really tall gears like 3.07, 3.21, and 3.31.
