Default Getrag hp limits

Hey guys. I got gen 1 with 5 speed getrag. I'm getting parts around for my build. p pumping her. He 351 turbo. Injectors and 150 gph fass fuel system. I'm wanting 350-400 hp out of her when I'm done. Not gonna pull it at all. Just a driver that ill haul with from time to time. Had a guy tell me that the getrag won't take that hp even if it's just a driver. Any thoughts? Thanks

Im not an expert by anymeans especially on the getrag trans. But i have read a few things on this. From what i have heard the getrag can last quite a while with 300 or 400 horses being cranked through it depending on how the trans is treated (racing and hot-rodding i, it prob wont last long!). Has yours been recently rebuilt? If it has 250k or 300k miles u might oughtta consider a rebuild before u put the power behind it. I personally would probably switch to NV4500 with upgrades, but idk i might change my mind after more researching and considering the $$$ it would cost. The NV4500 also has its share of problems but after they arxed it would prob be more durable than the getrag. I am also pretty sure that the nv4500 has more options when it comes to upgrading them wheras the getrag pretty much has none

Mine has 184 on it. Original owner never did anything to it. Truck is bone stock and unmolested. When I bought it I drive it 1200 miles home and had zero issues. Pulls strong goes in and out of gear super smooth. When I tear her down I was gonna drain the fluid and top it off with the extra quart threw the shift plate like several have suggested. I would consider a nv4500 but can find one reasonable. Guys want more than what I can buy a remaned one for. I won't be hot rodding just a driver and the occasions hauling my 24' tactor with tractor or whatever on it. I plan on putting proper clutch in it for when I turn it up.
