Replacing the engine & motor mount interference.

Replacing the engine & motor mount interference.
I just pulled my KDP "killed" engine this weekend and it was very difficult to get out. In order for the motor mounts to clear the crossmember I had to lift it so high the bell-housing was pushed up pretty hard against the body. I don't see how it will go back in without some change.
I'm thinking about unbolting the motor mounts from the block so I can get the engine low enough to get the transmission shaft and bell-housing properly aligned.
If I bolt the motor mounts to the crossmember and lower the engine into the mounts I'm sure the motor will be low enough to align with the transmission shaft.
I have a manual Getrag transmission.
Any input? Any brilliant ideas?
