Default in need of some transmission help

yesterday I was driving and then all of a sudden it was like the transmission came out of gear and the truck wouldn't move. I was messing with it today and whenever I put it in gear it doesn't go into the gear, it just acts as if its still in park. I checked the linkages and it seems like everything is still working correctly. any thoughts?

Please give us details about your truck.
Fluid level?
Transfer case in neutral?
Checked your torque converter bolts?

I'm going to make the assumption you had your hubs locked when you tried 4wd. Something people don't always think about is the possibility they blew the rear end.
There is the possibility that the center of the flex plate broke. Not unusual.
Very remote, but possible. The coupler between the transmission and transfer case stripped the splines. I have 1 to prove it.
Main thing is with a situation like this is start at the crank shaft and work your way to the wheels. Do the stuff that can be easily checked first.

I think its the torque converter. I took off the inspection cover and had my buddy start the truck and put it in drive, the torque converter was engaged but when I had him shut the truck off I heard the internals of the torque converter clankin around

Overhaul time. Keep in mind that whatever came apart in the torque converter is now scattered through out the rest of the transmission. No sense doing it twice.
Options are many:
Sell the truck
Stock overhaul
Various upgrades to stock (what I did)
47RH conversion
Manual trans conversion

on the 47 rh there is a port used for pressure testing pass side that you can put in a 55 psi ac switch from what I have read at 55mph it puts out about 55psi and will trigger the switch and od will turn on

its in the archives I am sure

That is the governor pressure test port and it runs approx 1psi per mph depending on gearing and tire size.
A much better way to do it is to use a "delay on" relay connected to the OD circuit. That way lockup occurs shortly after OD engages instead of a fixed speed. You would also want to install an on/off switch so you can unlock for towing or extra power.
