engine fires right up, always, every time. immediately the rpms drop to around 600. checked fuel pressure. airdog keeps it steady. top end is fine. no signs of power loss. also every once in a while when i wrap it out and clutch it it will flutter around 5-600 rpms and die. fires right up always.

366 spring, denny T afc delete, 5x.014 sac injectors, 57mm twin scroll, airdog II 165.

 

Low idle when the outside temperature drops is common. But it also sounds like your idle adjustment is too low.

 

How do you like your sac injectors?

 

its an intermittent issue, sometimes it does it and sometimes it dont. ambient temp hasnt seemed to be having an effect on it. it can be 70* or 100* and it still may or may not do it

love them. smoke less than the stock 6x.009 while still giving better power and boost. make for a good clean burn

 

Try turning your idle up and see if it helps stabilize it.
How many miles are on the injection pump?
Do you have an auto or manual?
You could also be having an issue related to the KSB (cold start) solenoid. I had one that leaked past the plunger and caused idle issues.

 

fresh pump only a couple K. manual trans. it died on me one time when i rapped it up and clutched it. could not get it to fire. took a piece of wire and hooked the kbs stright to battery and it fired right off. has never not started again exept for that one time but it still does its thing at random. sometimes i can red line it, clutch it and it returns to idle with no problems, them some times it will wanna die, bump the throttle and catches up and smooths out.

 

If you only have a couple thousand miles on it, it may still need some brake in time. There is supposed to be a resistor in line with the KSB, if it isn't there or you bypass it, it will burn out. Opening the KSB may have purged some trapped air. Make sure you don't have any leaks that can suck air into the fuel supply line. Rapping the throttle on a "tight pump" will cause the governor to rebound and stick in the defuel position. That is what will cause the "wanna die" issue, especially if you have a 3200 or higher governor spring as they are stiffer. Bumping or just giving it a little throttle will pull it back into proper position.

 

tonight i put the photo tach on it. as you suspected, idle speed was low. 625rpm. bumped it up to 750rpm and it pretty well fixed the low end of things, it doesnt bog way down when i turn the wheels at an idle anymore. and as for the rapping out and dieing, i suppose your right again because i got the 3200 spring and a bump of the throttle will smooth things out. i guess i should have photo tached it b4 i started a thread but thank you very much for you help!!

 

No problem at all. I consider it a non ending learning experience. I keep a note book on all my trials and errors. I also take note of other peoples experiences. It makes me a better mechanic and I share that information with others,,,,, if they chose to listen.
