Default top end power?

I just replaced the fuel filter, pre filter, fuel line and turned the star wheel full forward. I have good acceleration up to about 50mph then super slow acceleration if any. any Ideas on how to fix it?

Well if the star wheel is full forwards its gonna be more fuel on bottom to mid range cause ur taking bedazzled off of the aft spring. If u tighten the spring back up some ull have alil less on bottom but itll take more time to get to full fuel as u get higher boost. Srry if it hard to under stand. Never was good at explaining without being able to point at it!!!

what all is done to the truck

easiest way to check the wastegate is to pinch the wastegate line. no there isnt any cheap wastegates

is the trans shifting into OD sounds bout like mine did when i first put the 12v in it. it only had 1 2 and 3 and felt strong down low, then nothing above 40.

just some ideas, good luck

Truck is stock, and out of CA so it has a bunch of emission crap on it
That I want to take off. I am on a tight budget where I am out of work and in school
So any cheap mods that I can do to increase power would be great!!! How much boost could I expect if I block the waste gate off? And I have a steel line coming off the waste to the aft, what would be the best way to block that off?? Where and how do I install a boost gauge ?

Personally, I suggest just leaving the truck stock, if that's your financial situation. Diesels are expensive to repair and pretty much lose their reliability status when you remove the factory reins. Not to mention the cost of diesel these days...

Anyway.. you'll probably want to look into a 4K/3K governor spring kit.
PDR governor spring installation
The stock governor spring defuel after about 2.2K... so you basically don't get any power after hitting that. Think most recommend installing through the side, which is mentioned at the bottom of that link I left...

As for blocking the wastegate. I don't think that'll do anything for top end. It should only give you more boost. But, it's boost that's unregulated, so it's possible that you can blow a head gasket, if you don't watch yourself. So, basically, your kinda playing with fire. There are elbows available you can buy, though, that have an adjustable screw. Wont' work on my '94, but your '97 should be compatible with it. Looks like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Adjus...Q5fAccessories

As for where it goes (note that this boost elbow has no adjustable screw): http://www.thoroughbreddiesel.com/edge/boost-elbow.htm

the only thing that cant take more power is that stock pos tc, if you put a single or triple in there, a gauge, and good cooler and a shift kit (if your up to it) the rest of the trans can take more power and the rest of the truck will be just as reliable as long as you dont go crazy

if you get your tranny upped a bit, i would grind your stock plate, tune the afc, adavance the timing to 16* or so and put the 3ks or 4ks in there and you sound be pretty happy with it

the emission stuff is easy to get rid of, i have a intake horn off a non ca truck if your interested, then just get a piece of flat steel and make a cover for the hole in the exhaust manifold
