Question 96 fueling problem as in none!

Ok so heres the story i bought a 96 ctd club cab 5 speed 4x4 that had been sitting for 3 years for a really old guy, he said he parked it there shut it off went inside came out tryed to start it and it wouldnt fire, so he thought it was the fuel pump which is on the side of the block? (i guess not really up to date on 12valves) so he put a new pump on it and it wouldnt prime so he left it. well i picked it up cheap drug it home and heres my story! well i wanted to start with what he told me was wrong, a bad fuel line so i pluged the filler cap and put an air chuck in it and put the air to it trying to find the leak, i found a bad one right where the rubber line bends and goes into the fuel filter so i changed that out today and cracked the 2nd injector( sorry dont know which number) and nothing, so then i thought i would check the fuel filter which was just about bone dry so i filled it up with power service and put it back on, cranked a bit more and still no fuel at the injector where do i go from here?? could it be the pump and paid 2500 for a junk truck???

You probably have a bad fuel line or sending unit, sometimes they will suck air in without leaking diesel out. Did you try priming it by pumping the plunger on the lift pump.

Run a short hose from the lift pump into a can of fuel and see if you can prime it that way, if that works you know it's a line.
