Default transmission upgrades?

My truck is still stock and I hear about the AFC mods and the 4k GSK kits but my question is before I do all this, with an automatic transmission what do I have to do so that I don't break something expensive?

At the very minimum I would upgrade your valve body and upgrade to a good single or triple disc converter.

well don't know on 12 valves too much but with whats in my sig the stock auto is screaming for mercy . i just swapped it in and wanted all the bugs worked out before i upgraded it anyways so i didn't care much. i would do like they said, put a converter and valvebody in and save up for a full build

In my dealings, I find that most trucks act differently based on miles and what kind of life they've lived so far. In my truck, the stock auto starting slipping just after adding a #6 plate at about 120k.

This isn't an exact recipe, so don't quote me. But I've used this for everything, and my auto's have yet to grenade on me...

Anything over stock, the stock tc is almost guarenteed to slip. Get a good single disc if you aren't going over 500hp. Modding the vb, whether it is a shift kit or a full vb, will also help the tc hold on better.

If going over 500hp, getting a triple disc is a good idea, along with input shaft. If you go over 500hp and actually use the power a lot, I'd put in decent clutches and stuff too. If you are going to do 4x4 launches, then you'd need an output shaft too.

Doing a gsk won't hurt the trans at all, as it's not adding actual power, it just broadens the powerband.
