Down Converter issues

This has been going on for a while now and havent had the money to buy a new tc if it really is gone, but my torque converter wont lock up anymore, the only time it does is when the truck is started for the first time that day and i take it out on the road, it locks up for a little bit then it kicks out or if i give it too much throttle it will kcik out, what do yall think? do i need a new one or is there something else going on?

If it locks up at all, it seems to me that it would be perhaps a problem with the wiring/circuitry and not the TC by itself. Do you have a manual lockup switch?

It could have something to do with the TPS, too.
How many miles are on your truck?

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply, the truck has 242,000 and i dont think the tc has ever been replaced, ive replaced the tps 1 or 2 times and i know what that feels like when its not working so its not that, and no i dont have a manual lock up switch

It may be worth throwing in a lockup switch to see if it'll stay locked up. That way, if it doesn't you know it's a prob with the tc, and if it does, you'll know to look somewhere else. Much cheaper than replacing the converter if it's not the problem. Just a thought.

i dont wanna hijack the thread, but i have a strange issue with my converter. i have a fresh refbuilt trans, with goerend valve body& triple disc converter. i do have a lock up switch and if i use it and just lug the truck it locks up great, but if i mash the throttle hard, it will come unlocked. is this a converter issue? or could it be something else.

It may be a TC problem, but Dave makes some great stuff. Maybe give him a call and see what he thinks?
