Default Sleeved 98 12v

Alright I found out from a local engine shop that the truck i just bought for next to nothing might have been sleeved by them a few years back. Is there anyway to find out for sure other then to tear down the motor. The motor is running really strong, the fuel plate is ground down about 25% from stock. My EGT are fine, boost, and tranny temps are all good as well. My only complaint is that the turbo lags a bit but when it hits its hard enough to sit you back in your seat.

why is it a bad thing to have it sleeved. it think it is a good thing to have them sleeved.thats the way all of the rigs are it make it easier to rebuild if you have to. just take the piston out and pull sleeve and put new sleeve in. thats the way they should have come from cummins.

The explanation I was given by continental was there isnt enough block material to support the sleeve safely and push high numbers with an upgraded motor. I was also told by a family friend not to touch it with a stick of dynamite if it was sleeved but it doesnt make much sense to me. A stainless steel sleeve should be far more robust then a cast block based on cylinder temps and pressures. The only thing I would like to know for sure is if a few cylinders were sleeved or if all six were. Mainly because the different materials expand at different rates.

i wouldn't be scared of a sleeved motor.... i would want to know WHY it was sleeved, did the old cyl crack? did the piston come apart and tear something up? did it drop a valve and cause some issues.....

it it was done properly then there are no worries....

Supposedly the turbo piled and dusted the motor, the cylinders were machined and the ones that were too far gone to machine were sleeved. Im in Regina and bought the truck from a guy in Balgonie, its 98 12V, came with air raid intake and three and a half inch brushed steel exhaust, and cable locker diffs which appear to be a Warn setup. So far Ive ground the fuel plate ground the exhaust flanges to match the seals, added pyro, and oil pressure gauges, and restricted the boost return line to increase boost a bit. She leaves black strips for a good 15-20ft from a dead stop if you spool her up to around a 1000rpm before you launch it. The trans feels like its slipping a bit too but that only started once i ground the fuel plate and upped the boost a bit, the trans may be too tired and worn to take it. So far I like it alot more then the blazer i had with a 6.2 turbo, I was actually looking for a 7.3L F350 when I stumbled across this truck and for $7500 I couldnt pass it up. Market value for them locally seems to be around 12-14K in the condition this truck is mechanically and cosmetically, other then an old tranny I couldnt be happier for my money.
