12 Valve 2nd Gen Dodge Cummins 94-98 Discussion of 12 Valve 5.9 Liter Dodge Cummins Diesels with P7100 Injection Pumps

Can anyone give me the correct Cummins number for the fitting that allows the banjo bolt to come out of the low pressure side and reinstall the fuel line and gauge? Any help is greatly appreciated since Cummins here in Louisville SUCKS!... JOIN NOW TO REMOVE TRACER

you dont need it.

Pull your banjo bolt out and drill and tap it 1/8" npt. Make sure you use a needle ale to dampen the pressure pulses from the pump.

Dr. Evil, you guys never cease to amaze...good stuff! Thanks a bunch! When you say to use a needle valve, do you mean into the banjo bolt head and then attach the gauge to that?

Have a look at the pic. The tapped banjo bolt goes on the inlet of the P-7100 injector pump. After tapping the banjo bolt 1/8" npt, install the needle valve, and then run your line through the firewall to your guage. Be careful not to loose the washers when you pull the banjo bolt from the inlet of your injector pump. The reason I say to tap your banjo bolt is that the 14mm banjo bolts on 12Vs are hard to find. The 12mm tapped banjo bolts found on 24V trucks can be found at just about and diesel supplier. As for the needle valve, start the truck with it closed and just crack it so that you get a smooth reading. It probably should only be open 1/16 of a turn to 1/8 th of a turn (but thats just a guess) - try to get a valve thats 1/8" male npt on one side and 1/8" female npt on the other.

As DM pointed out above you can also use a pressure snubber BUT you have to make sure that you get one thats suitable for diesel (there are different kinds), as well, its nice to have a valve in the line in case you ever had a problem with the guage or line into the cab, you might want to be able to shut the diesel supply off.

One last thing, be very careful doing any work here - yoou are on the clean side of the filter and want to make sure you dont get any debris in your pump.
