Default new tranny with problems, GRRRRR!!

ok here it is, 96 ctd 4x4, new tranny upgraded steel planets, extra clutches added to fill out each pack, shift kit in valve body, low stall 4 disc converter w/billett front cover,
now for the problems, when ideling thru parking lots the tranny will jump between 1st and
2nd gear at less than 10 mph, and when you step on it it will take off fine w/ up to 35 psi of boost and shifts thru the gears at the rite speeds, but at about 35 mph the boost falls off and the tranny quits pulling hard untill the converter locks at about 52 mph, and then you can really feel it pull again when you step on it, i have replaced the tv cable and adjusted it a hundred times, still no results, could it be a bad shift kit or is it needing a pressure adjustment some where due to the upgraded converter w/ the lower stall????/

sounds like you need a VBA (Valve Body Assistant) Dave at Goerend Transmission Incorporated sells them i think, i know he supplies them with any V/B or tranny he sells.

it seems your gov pressure is higher than stock so it is shifting sooner thinking the truck is going faster. our trucks shift off of speed normally. when you put in the shift kit you now have more fluid pressure and the tranny senses it. give Dave a call, make sure you have time to listen cause he likes talking alot. real good man though

Mine did a similar thing about the 35 mph issue at about 35-45 it became a slug till the TC locked. A 4K GSK helped it out a lot. What im thinking is your trans is still working your just out of fuel.

Who made the trans? I can second the VBA when my trans was installed the vba didn’t go in and it would go into limp mode. Call Dave He will get you setup even if it isn’t his trans if you don’t need a vba he isn’t going to sell you one but he will spend hours helping you diagnose your problem.

the stuttering 1-2 shift is due to a failing GPS (governor pressure solenoid), the reason the 4k gsk helped is due to increased line pressure which comes with added rpm's.
