Light problems HELP!

Light problems HELP!
I have a 97 cummins 4x4 with an 02 cab on it having problems with rear lights. They work sometimes all bulbs are good all fuses are good. I hooked up to trailer to see if trailer lights would all but right flasher worked after that took trailer off and none of back lights worked (brakes, flashers, running lights) then 20 minutes later they worked again. Why? I have read a lot and haven't found a fer sure answer to the problem. Help please
