Default 98 12 valve 3 or 4gsk with auto trans?

Ok so i wanna get a governor spring kit but i cant decide which to order.. i dont really wanna install new valve springs so basically i wanna know if anyone installed a 4gsk in an auto truck and will the engine rev past 3200 at wot or will the shift points stay the same? Also if the shift points dont change and it shifts before 3200rpm would 4gsk make a difference over a 3gsk since the engine wont go past 3k rpm anyway while driving? Thanks!

With the 4gsk it will easily rev past 4 grand mine free reving will go to 4400. So if you are going to do a 4k I highly recommend getting 60lbs valve springs. If you don't want to get 60lb valve springs you can just leave the smallest spring out and it will act as a 3k. Installing the 4k without the valve springs your right foot will control the death of your motor so if you can keep it below 3 that's good, if not you have a lot of money down the drain. Seat of the pants feel with a 4k you will not believe your driving the same truck. 3k you will tell a difference but it won't be as dramatic as the 4k.

As far as shift points I have a manual so I tell it when to shift, however if I am wrong some of the others can correct me. With the automatic transmission the shift points will be the same however in your finally gear that is when you can go past 3, that is what I have heard from other forums. If you are going to do other mods you should upgrade you tc, I have a new fuel plate in the box and I'm just waiting for the spring to come and install a new south bend clutch and do the 5th gear fix.

My own 2cents if you are going to bomb your truck please do it right over build your truck rather than under building it and breaking stuff later down the road. But that's what I have done to mine, after taking some advice from the mods of this site.

I agree with what has been stated above.
the shift points will not change unless you manually shift it.
valve body, a good torque converter and the truck will drive like you would not believe

Well yea i dont plan on putting the truck in nuetral and reving it past 3 grand and in overdrive the trucj would probaby be way past a comfortable vehicle speed to even reach 3200 rpm.. hell at 70 im only at 2krpm so even in overdrive i dont think it would even reach 3200rpm.. down the road sometime i might put 60lb springs in guys at worj says they help with chatter at idle and im sure im gonna be doing valve seals at some point so i guess the 4gsk is a go then? And you guys are saying the 4gsk will def feel a difference over 3gsk even tho my engine wont reach 4k rpm anyway?

That is not quite what we said. Just do the 4k kit now. It won't hurt anything having it. You may not use it. But you will not need to do it again. You will not feel any difference within the two kits under 3k rpm.
My vote is always 4k. It's there when you are ready to use it

So if my trans wont allow the engine to go to 4k rpm until im doing like 120mph in overdrive whats the point of the 4gsk install

be careful about banging it in gear .. with that much load and rpm you cna and will snap the input off if its not 300M and good quality ..

Go 3200 springs and drive happy ..

if you go 4k .. you "SHOULD" do a fluid damper and springs.. just keeps everything harmoniously happy

Ok cool.. i just had my trans replaced with some slightly performance trans called a road ripper 1000 dont know how good they are but supposvly they have a billet converter upgraded clutchs and bands and valve body.. but the truck is still a dog at any rpm over 2k like tryin to merge onto highway until it hits overdrive then u can really feel the torque layin down.. ill jus go with the 3k.. dont plan om taking truck to far its clean and unmolested and trying to keep it that way so i dont lose 15k like i did with my 650hp 06 cr i had...
