Have you tried to jump the solenoid?

I had the same issue with my 51 Hudson, the starter was brand new, solenoid was NOS. I could get the starter to kick over by connecting a positive jumper lead to the battery, and the other one to the lead off of the starter solenoid to the starter itself.

Found out that even though the solenoid was "brand new" it was broken, I got a replacement from NAPA believe it or not.

If you get the same results when you do that test, unfortunately it is an issue with the starter itself, if you have just bought it and it has a warranty take it back, and have it replaced

Well my battery cable leading down to the starter is shot to hell so hopefully that's the problem. Anybody know where to get two gauge positive cable at?

I would check Napa they will most likely be your best bet if you have one around you, if not a car quest or O'Reillys may have it

I checked O'Reilly last night all they have is four gauge, NAPA I checked online all they have is four gauge. I don't think we have a Car Quest here in Texas but I'll look it up.
