Default 47re

I have a 98 12v with a 47re. I had the trans rebuilt for the 2nd time in 2 years and something went wrong again....figures this time its out of warranty...oh and this I what happened. so last august I was on my way home and it lost all gears. I had it towed home and it sat for a few days and I moved it. had to get the rpms up to 3500 and hold it there for about 30 to 45 sec and then it would start to slow move but it would pick up speed. I parked it for winter and know that is starting defrost out I figured I would move it closer to the house. It started it up put in gear and nothing. rear it though all gears and still nothing. I brought the rpms up and started throttling it up and down and after about 2-3 minutes it started to move and picked up speed fast... (was in reverse when I grabbed) stopped put it drive had to rev it about 30 sec and it started moving.... trans fluid is fine and full....so did I burn up the bands again or torque converter? the local shop said it could be either one but the want to look at it and I don't have the extra money... if its bands Im doing a nv4500 swap. if its a torque converter I can just swap it out. any help?

.

Wait, you're going to completely replace the transmission if it's the bands but you'll just swap out torque converters? Bands are crazy inexpensive and easy to change.

Either way, another possibility is that you've got valve issues with your VB. People don't give Torqueflite transmissions a fair shake, but they're arguably among the most reliable automatics ever thrown into American vehicles. If you've got a 47re already, it can be built to last a long time if you know where to beef it up. Save the money you'd otherwise spend on labor and put it into some upgrades for your current gear box. Do some light research, source the parts or learn how to machine your current parts and build it yourself. It's so easy a woman could do it.

If you need help, I gotcha.

Agreed. Sounds like the TC is draining out and not refilling. I'd start the diagnosis with a line pressure test.

lets just say im not really confident in myself doing a rebuild or installing billet parts...put I can pull the trans no problem. I was planning on doing the swap eventually but bc I need my truck now not next year I was hoping it would be an easy fix... we had a run of bad luck... literally in 2 weeks we totaled our daily car, lost my job, had to put my 6yo boxer down bc of cancer then we got a eviction notice bc the landlord sold the building and the new owners are tearing it down....so yeah ill be homeless in less then 2 weeks...
