tappet/push rod cover gasket
hey guys i have a bad oil leak coming from the tappet cover. i need to get it done before it gets to cold outside. i have an idea how to do it. i know you take the ip off to reach it. but i heard you have to retime it. im not sure how to do that and not sure if i need special tools. i know that the truck has stock timing. can anyone help me with this please?

Make sure you ensure that the grear inner taper and the shaft taper are dry ... I ran the nut down till it was tight , and then did the "snap" ... like jammed the gear on right quick with my 1/2" ratchet .... till it was tight...
the first time it slipped and this was a great suggestion by someone who has done this so manny times he could do it blindfolded... Good luck and keep us posted ....

Top Dead Center... when #1 is at the top of its stoke.... the highest up in the cylinder it can possibly go ... before it goes back down ... if you can find some retaining compound - its llike dychem blueing like what a machinst uses ... it will go on the clean taper of the pump and the inner taper of the gear and keep the two surfaces from slipping ... oif just carefully use a 1/2" impact gun .... just dont over due it or you will be screwed....
