Fuel Shut Off Cable Problems

Fuel Shut Off Cable Problems
I'm the new owner of a 1996 Ram 3500. This is the first Diesel truck that I've had and I can say that I've enjoyed it quite a bit. I have had the truck for about a month at this point and I've been learning quite a bit about them in this short time.
This truck had a Fuel Shut Off cable installed when I purchased it. It has worked flawlessly until yesterday when it began to malfunction. It periodically will shut off the engine now when it's engaged and there's no rhyme or reason as to when it will shut it off when pulled.
I've lifted the hood and tried to manually shut it off when it malfunctions and have determined that the cable doesn't seem to be the issue.
any thoughts as to why it wouldn't sporadically wouldn't work?

there is a fuel shut off solenoid .... that is what the cable is operating ... someone jimmy rigged that with a cable ... best thing is to get it back to factory .... its electronically actuated .... basically its an electromagnet that it kicked on by switching the ignition to the ON position ... try un hooking the cable and finding the power that used to be hooked to the solenoid ... if that doesn't work the solenoid could be malfunctioning ... keep us posted on your progress
