Default sputtering and won't go over 1500 rpm

Just picked up truck. Kid put a lot of money in go fast parts. But no idea on how it works. After he put the bigger turbo and 150hp injectors in he said pump needs timing advanced. When u start it fires right up. Smokes grey. Throttle response is amazing. But it won't rev past 1300-1500 rpm. Sputters and sounds like a launch or 2step. He is running no fuel plate. And said pumps turned up. So to me it seems to be over fueling. Any ideas where to start. And is he correct p pump needs advanced. Its running stock timing there.

Reason he got rid of truck is because he dumped all that money in it n a diesel guy told him the pump needs advanced. And he want not and didn't know how to. As far as if injectors were new or used I could not tell ya for sure. Alls I know it does have a bigger turbo, the exhaust is definitly aftrermarket n t he fuel plate is removed. N star wheel is cranked all the way. N has an after market waster gate n has the electric fast fuel lift pump

well checking your timing is where i would start. put it around 18 if its not already there. if you have studs i would go a little higher. one other passing thought. check your fuel filter and OFV (overflow valve)

My truck did the same. Needed a fuel pump and went ahead a put a better overflow valve and replaced the fuel filter. Runs great now

well what kind of fuel pressure do you see? it absolutely wouldn't hurt to put a $10 filter on it.

Ok so I know he putba larger turbo on. Here to discover he has put a nipple onnthe housing n ran a vacuum line to fed waste gate. I put it back to stock. With how it runs over to afc n truck revs good. Lotta grey smoke still but smooth to 4k rpm. Should I try adjusting the fast fuel pump down? It has a biult in adjustable reg.

Ok. After replacing the clutch slave and master n fixed the boost reference line from w/g to afc it will rev all way threw the rpms. But upon driving. 2nd gear pulls good till 1800 rpm on its like driving with the breaks on n bellowing grey. They kid had the waste gate line hooked to a nipple on cold side of turb to waste gate. Shaking my head. So one F-up fixed n runs a little better. What do u suggest now? Is there a fuel regulator of some sort like on a gas engine? Get an acctual fuel plate n mess with timing?
