Default Need advice

I have a 1996 Ram2500 12V. Its stock besides having a spectre BHAF (well small filter compared to a BHAF) but the air box is removed and the filter is in place of the air box. Also a 5in farm boys diesel exhaust with muffler. It also has a primeloc system which is on top of the intake. I do know a good bit about turbo cars but not much about diesels especially mechanically fuel injected. The guy I bought the truck from said it has an upgraded pump but I have no idea how to tell if its actually upgraded. Its an automatic =( but I've heard they're not THAT bad. I got the truck for $5500 so I can't really complain.

I actually have two questions.

1. This truck is my personal truck but I use it for my lawn care business as well. I plan to haul a 6X12 dump trailer next leaf season. They are tandem axle trailers and have some weight to them plus the leaves. With a 300lb leaf vacuum mounted on the back and about 4000lbs empty weight of the trailer plus the leaves could it haul it with the stock automatic transmission without issues?

2. I'm looking to add a little power but NOT a lot since the transmission isn't built and I don't want MPG to suffer since this is a work vehicle as well as a personal vehicle. I don't have gauges yet but they're first on my list. I am very new to diesels but willing to learn. I know taking the muffler off (I have the 5in muffler delete pipe) will help with MPG slightly plus sound louder which I would like. I know there's free modifications but I'll be able to put some cash into the truck once lawn season starts back in March. What kind of stuff can I do for free or pretty cheap? I hear people talking about the fuel plate and sliding it forward or changing it but I have no idea how to do so or where the fuel plate is, etc...? I also keep reading about injectors and turning the star wheel but I have no idea where or how to change these things.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
