Default Throttle cable or something else??

My brother owns a 1995 Dodge cummins dually that runs like a champ and never left him stranded until yesterday. He pulled into the sonic to grab a drink and shut it off. He started it and it would go in gear but had no throttle response. No revving, no grinding, no shaking, no smoke, no nothing. He had no problems before this happened. He managed to creep it to a parking space and had a friend pick him up and got the local diesel performance shop to take her in. I have not herd from him so I dont know if the shop called back yet. He just told the shop to look at it and call him. He just had his fluids and filters changed, so it is nothing liked clogged filters or anything. I know there was a recall on the 94-96 dodge diesels or gassers on the throttle cable, but we dont know if it was ever addressed or not because he bought it only 3 years ago. Does this sound like a simple throttle cable or something serious? If it is a throttle cable, can we replace it ourselves?? He can get a brand new one for $30 or a used one for around $20-25. He is more than glad to spend the $5 and buy new if it is the issue. Need help fast!!!! Thank you in advance bombers!!!!!!

Default Thank you!!!

Does it sound like a sure thing, or is there more possibilities?? I know there is a million, but just any others that may be likely.

throttle response, like the throttle doesn't work...?

can't be anything else i think, since these trucks are mechanical...

there's no electronic stuff linked with the throttle...

does it start up normal ? it's just the throttle pedal that won't work ?

No, it starts normal. Just a dead pedal. Nothing else seemed abnormal.

I was on a trip and the throttle cable broke. IU was 40 miles from a town, I limped along for a little bit then I tied a string on the throttle lever and ran the string next to the drivers mirror and ran the throttle by hand to town and I replaced the cable my self.

It not going into gear if it's a manual might have lost the pilot bearing and the roller bearings got inbetween the clutch and pressure plate. just a thought.

it is an auto and if you read the original post you will see I put "It would go in gear but has no throttle response".

As for your story, tie it to the mirror mount and you got cruise control!!! That is how many rednecks die in such odd ways.

Where did you find the string?? Kickin around in the toolbox?

Unfortunately it was not the cable. The whole linkage was shot. Labor+Parts was $170
