Newbie question. I did read the sticky
I bought a 96 2500 last night. It's in great shape but when we went to start it, the engine would just turn it over. The owner knew exactly what this was. He popped the hood and on the drivers side of the engine showed me a solenoid looking thing with a cable in it. He pushed the cable into the solenoid thing and then went to start the truck, It started right up. He said once in awhile this happens. Can you direct me to more info about that? I want to fix it but not even sure what it's called to look it up.

Fuel shut off solenoid. Does it look like this, or similar to it:
If so, they are easy to replace, and test. There are 3 wires to run it. A ground, another that is the holding coil (always has power while key on), and the third is a pull in winding (connected to the starter). When the starter is engaged, power is also sent to the solenoid to pull the linkage, and allow fuel to the injection pump.
