My stock motor is gotta be getting close to giving up the ghost so it will be going in soon. I am also getting another transmission ready. It sucks when you have plan ahead for parts failures but that seems to be the case.

Well fast forward about 2 months and the motor has been in/out twice. The guy who supplied the machine shop with the factory parts for the build sent them a reluctor ring for an LB7/LLY. The machine shop didn't know (or check) and assembled it.

I didn't find this out until we tried to fire it up for the first time (no go). Without 58 teeth on the reluctor ring the Bosch ECM on the LBZ will never find TDC or be able to fire the injectors. An expensive (and extremely frustrating) learning lesson for me. Hope this information helps someone building/swapping motors avoid the same issue.

That sucks big time, that happened to some other people too when they built their motors also, they put the wrong reluctor wheel on there. Did you get it running now?

Just for anyone else whos gonna build their dmax the lb7/lly motors the reluctor rings have 57 teeth and its gold.

lbz/lmm have 58 teeth and its silver iirc

It fired off for the first time this afternoon. It definitely needs some different tuning with lower static compression and a huge cam (and some more time for the rings to seat).

Dyno time to break in tomorrow and then next saturday will be big tune time for a real dyno run.

The new motor really likes to wrap tight - throttle response with the free breathing heads & lightweight valvetrain is unreal.
